Osmania Biscuits

Osmania Biscuits are very popular  in Hyderabad which is in the  Southern part of India.  These are usually served with Irani Chai. These biscuits are named after one of the Ruler of Hyderabad Mir Osman Ali Khan. Being an Hyderabadi, used to have these biscuits every now and then. These biscuits are available in local hotels, Tea stalls and very importantly Irani hotels.
Made these yummy soft biscuits for my kids last week. They loved the color and most importantly they had these biscuits with warm milk. And  I enjoyed with  a cup of Masala Tea ;). This recipe goes as a 2nd dish for 3rd weeks BM #52, under the theme Kids Delight- Snacking all the way....

Ingredients:

All purpose flour 2 cups
Unsalted Butter 1/2 cup
Custard powder 4 spoons
Sugar powder 1 1/4 cup
Saffron Pinch
Baking powder 1/2 spoon
Cardamom powder 3/4 spoon
Milk little more than 1/4 cup
3 spoons warm milk to soak saffron

Method:
Soak saffron in 3 spoons warm milk.
Butter has to be at room temperature.
In a bowl add butter, powder sugar and cardamom powder.
Mix well and keep aside.
In another bowl add flour, custard powder, baking powder.
Mix well and add this flour to the butter mixture.
Add little milk at a time to make a stiff dough.

Add more milk if needed but do not make the dough too thin or soft.
Rest the dough aside for 5 minutes.
Now roll the dough into thin sheet.

Make sure there are no cracks at the edges or in between.
Cut the biscuits with a round cookie cutter.
Arrange these cookies in a greased  baking tray.
Now brush the cookies with saffron which is soaked in milk.

Bake the biscuits in a Preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes on 350 F.
Remove cookie tray from over and let the cookies rest in the tray until they are cooled completely.
Cookies might break if you try to remove the them when they are hot or warm.
Serve with hot tea, coffee or milk.
