Falooda

Falooda is a cold dessert popular in Indian subcontinent. Traditionally it is made with rose syrup, sabja or basil seeds, vermicelli, milk and topped with a scoop of Ice cream. The origins of Falooda go back to Persia, where a similar dessert Faloodeh was popular. There are many versions of Falooda, some are made with noodles and blended with fruits. One of the Indian Versions consists of Kulfi, wheat starch noodles and flavoured syrup.

Sabja or  basil seeds or Tukmaria seeds are edible vegetable / holy seeds  used in many Asian countries. These seeds are soaked in water and used. They are rich in Vitamins, specially Vitamin K which kepps our skin and hair healthy. They are also rich in iron and protein. They are taste less but when you soak and add to desserts and beverages they give a nice texture  as they are gelatinous. 

So this  yummy and delicious dessert cum beverage, falooda goes to the 1st day of BM 76 for week 4, under the theme " Kids Delight- Summer coolers". Here goes the recipe.......



Ingredients:



Whole milk 2 cups
Falooda sev / Vermicelli 3/4 cup
Sugar 4 spoons
Rose syrup 4 spoons
Basil seeds / sabja seeds 4 spoons
Ice cream ( any flavor)
Chopped dry fruits to garnish ( optional)



Preparation:


In a small  boil add 2 spoons sabja / basil seeds and 1/4 cup water.
Boil milk in a large sauce pan.
Add sugar , 2 spoons rose syrup , 2 spoons sabja seeds and vermicelli, mix and let cook on low flame for 15 minutes.
Once the vermicelli is cooked switch of flame and let the mixture cool down completely.
You can even leave it in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Take a large serving glass add 1 spoon rose syrup and 1 spoon soaked basil seeds with out water.




Now fill the glass with chilled milk and vermicelli mixture.
Now top it with your favorite Ice cream, rose syrup and  dry fruits.
Serve cold and enjoy.
