Croissant

Croissants are one of my favorite breads. Croissants are buttery, flaky and French Origin bread. The dough is made with yeast, sugar, salt and lots of butter. The dough is layered with butter and folded couple of times and rolled into sheets. These simple, light and delicious croissants are great to have for breakfast along with a cup of coffee or milk. They can be stores in air tight container for up to 10 days. This recipe is adapted from here.

This recipe goes to week 3, day 1 of Blogging Marathon 103 under the theme " Roll and fold for a bun".

Ingredients:

All purpose flour / Maida 2  3/4 cups
Sugar 3 tbsp
Salt 1 tsp

Milk 1/2 cup
Water 1/4 cup
Egg 1

Preparation:

In a large mixing bowl add flour, salt, yeast, sugar and mix well.
Butter has to be cold, cut the butter into small pieces.
In another bowl whisk together milk, water and egg.
Add the milk mixture to dry flour mixture and butter.

Now roll the dough to give it a rectangular shape ( use dry flour for dusting )
Fold the dough into thirds, roll and fold again.
Repeat this 2-3 times, wrap in plastic wrap and chill for another 30 minutes.
Now divide the dough to 3 portions, roll each portion to rectangular shape with 1/8th thickness.
Cut the triangular portion to triangles  and roll each triangle , starting at the wide end.
place the rolled croissants on a greased baking tray.
Cover the baking tray with plastic wrap or damp cloth for 15 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, bake the croissants for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
