Potato Peas Paratha

Potatoes are one of our family's favorite vegetable. I generally make potato paratha for kids lunch boxes and sometimes for dinner too. To give these paratha's a nice color and extra taste, I have added little green peas to the stuffing along with potato. I have used frozen peas here, if you get fresh peas just go ahead cook them a bit and add to the stuffing. Potato and peas is a very good combination not only to make paratha's but also to make kurma, curry, pulao or samosa.

I have added little Amchur ( dry mango powder ) to the stuffing, if you do not have amchur powder go ahead and add some lime juice or little chaat masala as well. All the dry masala quantities I have added according to my kids taste. You can increase or decrease them according to your taste. Increase the quantity of peas as well if you want more. You can prepare the stuffing in advance and store in refrigerator for up to 2 days for later use.

Ingredients:


Potato 4 medium sized 
Frozen Peas 1/2 cup
Chopped cilantro / Coriander leaves 1/4 cup
Red chili flakes 1 spoon
Amchur powder 1 spoon
Roasted and crushed cumin seeds 1 spoon
Coriander powder 1 spoon
Garam Masala 1/2 spoon
Salt to taste
Oil / ghee 

For the Dough:

Whole wheat flour 2 cups
Salt 1/4 spoon
Oil 3 spoons
Water to make a dough



Preparation:


Start preparing dough by adding salt, oil and water to the flour.
Add enough water to make nice and semi soft dough.
Add 1 spoon oil, knead the dough, cover and set aside until you prepare the stuffing.


Cut the potatoes into half, wash and cook them till nice and semi soft.
Once the potatoes are cooked let them cool down a bit to remove skin and mash them.
Microwave the frozen peas along with some water for 2 minutes.
If you do not have microwave cook on stove top for 3-4 minutes.
Drain the water and add the cooked peas to mashed potato.
Also add crushed cumin, red chili flakes, salt, chopped cilantro, amchur powder, coriander powder and garam masala.
Using your hand or potato masher, mash all the ingredients well.

Lets get started with making Paratha.
Divide the dough into 8 equal portions ( or even more or less, depending on the size of paratha you want to make )
Dredge each ball into dry flour and roll them.
Roll out each  ball into 2-3 inch circle, place 2-3 spoons of potato peas stuffing in the center and close  it from all the sized like a dumpling / momo.
Now roll out the stuffed dumpling again carefully to make it a 5-6 inches diameter.
Place the paratha on heated tawa and cook on both sized.
Add little oil / ghee / butter on  both the sides  and cook till done.
Repeat with rest of the dough balls.
Serve hot with any pickle, yogurt and salad.

Aloo paratha is a big favorite here as well. I have been stuck in that wheel of rice-Rasam-sambar for a while now. Your post is reminding me to to try the other wide variety of dishes too!

Potato peas paratha is colorful and addition of peas did give it a nice color. Potato paratha with bowl of yogurt is so yum!
These are awesome parathas , I make these often , just with a minor difference , I use green chilly instead of red . Love these parathas as a meal with some dahi .

Stuffed parathas are always my favorite because you can serve it with a bowl of curd at the side for a fillkng meal. This potato and peas version looks super inviting.

Served with some yogurt on side, theses make a wholesome and nutritious meal.
I love stuffed paratha and I make it so often for kids lunch boxes. All they need is some jam and for me some pickle and yogurt. Looks so delicious!
